by Danitzia Negron, Period 4

Chapters1-10

Arthur (Boo) Radley is a man that has not been seen in a really long time.  During his childhood he  got into trouble with the law and his father refused for him to go to an industrial school.  Instead he made Arthur stay home for 15 years.  He supposedly also stabbed his dad with a scissor.  After his father died a few years later Arthur's brother Nathan took charge of keeping him inside the house and not let him go to the outside world.  The children (Jem, Scout and Dill) get curious and try to find ways of making him get out of the house.

There is a tree that is in front of the Radley's house whenever you walk by.  One day as Scout was walking  from school to her house she looked into the hole of the tree and saw a piece of bubble gum and a Indian head coin inside the hole of the tree.  Then another time she and Jem found gray twine, bubble gum, spelling bee medal, pocket watch, and two soap figures that looked like them.  Even though they didn't know it the person who was giving them all of those presents was Boo Radley.  This was one of his ways of trying to have contact with the world outside.

Dill one day dared Jem to touch the door of the Radley's place. Them along with Scout went inside the scary place and Jem was able to do the dare.  When they were trying to go through under the fence from where they came from Jem's pants get stuck.  He decided to take his pants off in order to get loose.  Then later on that night Jem decided to go back for his pants.  When he does he starts acting strange with Scout, but then confesses that when he went back for his pants they were neatly folded and sewed.

There was a dog named Tim Johnson that was acting very abnormally.  Since the dog was getting closer and closer to the house, Calpurnia decided to call Atticus.  When he and  Heck came, they were both  debating on who should shoot the dog.  In the end Atticus was the one who shot and killed the dog died.  Atticus was known as "O'l One Shot" when he was younger.

Chapters 11-19

Ms. Dubose was an old lady who had an illness, she was addicted to morphine.  She also used to talk bad to Scout and Jem and said bad stuff about Atticus.  One day she said to Jem and Scout that their father was trash just like the nigger that he was defending.  This made Jem go mad and he  destroyed the Camellia Bush that Ms. Dubose had.  Jem accompanied by Scout had to read to her for a month or so for two hours straight.  Later on when she died she gave Jem a white Camellia in a box that most probably represented the good in people's hearts.

Alexandra, Atticus' sister came to Maycomb to live with Jem, Scout and Atticus.  She came in order to give Scout a feminine role model and show her how to be more lady like.   Alexandra is very bossy, is too proud of her heritage, a big gossiper, hates Calpurnia, and is always arguing with Atticus about something.

Atticus' client, Tom Robinson came to Maycomb and was transferred to Maycomb jail.  Atticus decided to go and stay in front of the jail in case anything happened.  Jem, Scout, and Dill went to see if he was alright and interfered with Atticus and the group of men that wanted to hang Tom Robinson. After Scout identified Mr. Cunningham and  tried to talk to him, he talked back to her and told the men that were with him to leave.  This meant that Tom Robinson was out of danger for now.

In the trial of Tom Robinson, Mr. Ewell was saying that Tom raped his daughter Mayella and that he beat her up.  Mayella said that that what her father said was true even though it really wasn't.  Finally Tom testifies that it was Mayella who kissed him and that he tried to run for his life.

Chapters 20-31

After a long time thinking the situation over the court found him guilty. Since Tom's word was against two white people and he was black he didn't really have a chance to be proven innocent.

A few days after the trial Atticus was walking to the post office when Mr. Ewell came spat on his face. He was cussing at him and saying that he would get him if it was the last thing he did.  Everyone was concerned about what he said except for Atticus. He said that he was only mad that the he wanted to take that out of his system.  Little did he know that he was very wrong.

Tom was taken to another prison and Atticus decided to appeal the case saying that they still had a chance.  Tom's hope was already gone so he decided to flee from the prison.  As he was climbing over the fence they shot him 17 time and claimed that he could have escaped if it weren't for his left arm.

On Halloween, Jem and Scout were walking back home from the high school auditorium. As they were walking through the dark woods they kept hearing footsteps following them. Thinking that it was a boy named Cecil Jacob who had scared them earlier that day, they decided to let it slide. Then a man (Bob Ewell) attacks Scout and Jem and he injured Jem really bad in his left arm.  He was trying to get to Scout when another man (Boo Radley) came and rescued them just in the nick of time.
